Lokernas.com – PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk berdiri pada 01 Maret 1978. Pada awal mula berdiri PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk memiliki tugas utama yakni melakukan perencanaan, membangun, mengoperasikan dan melakukan pemeliharaan jalan tol beserta kelengkapannya agar jalan tol dapat berfungsi sebagai jalan yang bebas hambatan dan dapat memberikan manfaat bagi khalayak umum. Jika melihat sejarah panjang perseroan ini, hingga pada tahun 1987 Jasa Marga adalah satu-satunya penyelenggara jalan tol di Indonesia. Hingga akhrinya pada akhir dasawarsa tahun 80-an Pemerintah Indonesia mulai untuk ikut sertakan pihak swasta untuk berprestasi dalam pembangunan jalan tol melalui mekanisme BOT. Kemudian pada tahun 1990-an Perseroan lebih berperan sebagai lembaga otoritas yang memberikan atau memfasilitasi investor-investor swasta yang sebagian besar ternyata gagal mewujudkan proyeknya. Beberapa jalan tol yang diambil alih Perseroan antara lain seperti JORR dan Cipularang. Melalui adanya UU No 38 tahun 2004 tentang Jalan serta PP No 15 , maka terjadi perubahan bisnis jalan tol diantaranya dibentuknya BPJT sebagai regulator industri jalan tol di Indonesia, selain itu penetapan tarifl tol oleh Menteri PU dengan penyeuaian setiap 2 tahun. Maka dengan demikian, Perseroan kembali menjalankan fungsi penuhnya sebagia perusahaan pengembangan dan oprator jalan tol sedangkan peran otorisator dikembalikan ke Pemerintah.
